A while ago, well actually a couple of months ago, I was sick of knitting scarves etc. and I was looking for a new project. I was staring at my IPAD, and thought, “I could make a knitted IPAD cover.”. So that is exactly what I did. It was easy and quick which is always a plus. I even knitted a second one for Lauren. The pattern I made up was really easy.
I used size 13 knitting needles, 2 different skeins of yarn, one for texture and one for a little structure. I cast on 12 stitches for the vertical cover and 15 stitches for the horizontal cover. I knit tight, so if you are a looser knitter, I would decrease the cast on by 2. I knit 1 row then pearled a row and so on, repeating that pattern until it was long enough to go around the whole IPAD. Once it was long enough, I started to decrease both sides to create the flap.
The pattern for the flap is:
On the knit side- k 1, k 2 tog, k to end of row
On the pearl side- p1, p 2 tog, p to end of row.
Repeat pattern until you have only 2 or 3 stitches left. Bind off. Sew the two sides together by folding it in half (from the beginning of the flap down). You can choose to have the knit or pearl side showing.
Sew a cute, large button onto the flap. You don’t actually need to create the button hole. The stitches are large enough to just push button between two stitches.
Done! I hope that you will find this as easy as I did.
These can be done with any kind of yarn and really any size knitting needle. It just takes a little creative thought!
